Mr. Luis Fernandez
Principal

Principal Fernandez is celebrating his 10th successful year at Providence Public Schools. Most recently, Mr. Fernandez was Principal of Esek Hopkins Middle School for two years. Previously, Mr. Fernandez was Principal at Gilbert Stuart Middle School as well as Assistant Principal at Greene and DelSesto Middle Schools. 

Prior to joining Providence Public School District, Fernandez was an ESL/Bilingual Literacy teacher in New York City Schools for 10 years. Fernandez is a product of New York City Schools. He moved to the Bronx, NY from Peru at the age of 13. He is bilingual. Fernandez obtained his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oswego and his Master’s in Education from New York University. He embarked on his leadership pathway at CLEE (Center of Leadership & Education Equity) in Rhode Island.

A bilingual educator, Principal Fernandez’s existing relationships within the Providence Public Schools community will be an asset as the District transitions Spaziano to the PreK-8 model. His long term commitment to the District and its schools as well as his passion for and experience with dual language programs will strengthen the Spaziano community. He will be actively working with families and the community to:

  • Manage the new development of Spaziano Middle School.
  • Integrate developing staff across both campuses.
  • Promote equity for all students.
  • Engage families deeply in their children's academic experience.
  • Establish strong support systems for students and families.
